James Cameron making sequels to Avatar?

According to news media reports, James Cameron and FOX are planning to make and release more 'Avatar' films. We'll continue to monitor the situation. Clearly the preference would be for these films to be inclusive and not exclusive. We hope Cameron got the message with the protests against his film and denial of the Best Film Oscar for Avatar.

We thank the Academy for denying Avatar the Oscar for Best Film. And we especially thank the thousands across the globe who stood up in defense of diversity and tolerance. Those of you who protested today, who protested in December and who protest all forms of discrimination and gender imperialism have won. Today we can be all loud and proud. Today we are all Transgender.

You made your voices heard and the Academy heard. You made your sexuality open and free and James Cameron heard. You rejected hate and the world heard.

The Hurt Locker is anti-war and we support that cause.

We are very proud of you. We love you.

Our struggle for sexual rights, health care and education does not end today. It goes forward, stronger than ever.

Protest against Avatar and the Oscars on Sunday, March 7, 2010

First, we want to thank the thousands of people from all over the world who have supported this site and the cause of diversity and tolerance. Without your support, we wouldn't be where we are today. Each and every one of you did the right thing and defended our rights. That is something worth doing at anytime and thank you again.

As you know, we've been talking about the building up on the successful 12/18/09 protest against Avatar. Despite that success we are very disappointed that Avatar was nominated for several Oscar awards including Best Film. James Cameron has refused to make any public statements or apologies so we still have a ways to go.

But we have an opportunity to correct this injustice on March 7, 2010. That is day the Oscars will be held in Los Angeles but IT WILL BE the day that the GBLT community and all free-thinking people of progress will make their voices heard.

You can make March 7, 2010 a day to affirm social justice, diversity and tolerance instead of a day of corporate greed and heterosexual preconceptions.

America needs progress and change and Americans finally have a President who is intelligent enough to make it happen. Health Care is a basic human right. Gay Marriage is a basic human right. Diversity is a basic human right. Support President Obama and change and we can win over intolerance and right-wing bigotry and stupidity.

We received many wonderful ideas and suggestions as to how to protest on March 7. After a lot of soul-searching and substance absorption, these are the ideas for protest we ask you to consider:

Paint yourself using gold body paint and walk the streets of your community in the nude. The display of your genitalia will send a counter-message to Oscar’s sexual denial.
Hold an empty picture frame in front of your face. This will symbolize what American TV programs and films fail to show.
Do not watch the Oscars on your television. Watch progressive programming instead.
Invite people to your home or speak with them in public about sexuality and Evolution.

Direct protest:

For those in the Los Angeles area you can certainly protest in the traditional manner at the location of the Oscars ceremony. We only ask that you be peaceful and non-confrontational.

We have gotten offers from people who work in the film industry to disrupt the ceremony itself during its live broadcast. While we do not call for such actions, we understand why they would be justified.

Message to the Academy:

If you wish to avoid the protest we ask the following: Rescind all nominations for Avatar. The film should not be awarded anything. We also ask that you give Brokeback Mountain the Oscar award for Best Film that it was denied a few years ago. Everyone knows that Brokeback Mountain is a better and more significant film than Crash.

A plea for tolerance to Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

The following has been sent to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences regarding the Oscar nominations they will be soon be announcing:

With respect and with determination, we ask the Academy not to nominate the James Cameron film Avatar for any Oscar awards this year.

As you know, there was a global protest against Avatar on December 18, 2009 because of the film's exclusion of gay, lesbian and transgender characters. And because of the film's apparent denial of Evolution and because of its heterocentric suppositions.

Diversity, tolerance and health care are basic human rights and Avatar directly and indirectly assaulted those rights. To promote the cause of diversity and to send a message of tolerance we ask the Academy to ignore Avatar during its nomination process. By doing this, you would be telling the creators of Avatar and others, that it wrong to exclude people on the basis of their sexuality. That tolerance requires a rational and scientific basis. That we must celebrate diversity.

If you decide to nominate Avatar for any award we will have no choice but to speak out and to protest. We will do this on March 7, 2010. We will protest to give voice to those who have been silenced by hate and intolerance. We will speak out to defend our rights and to defend our President who working to promote the change we seek.

Where Avatar fails, Earth: Final Conflict succeeded

Is Da'an Humanity's future? Not a he, not a she. Not like anything you've ever seen.

Earth: Final Conflict (EFC) was a Canadian televison series about a race of transgender beings called the Taelons who visit the Earth to share their knowledge to help the humans. EFC was a remarkable program in that instead of giving us stereotypical alien "male" or "female" gender characterizations it provided a more realistic and acceptable portrayal of evolved intelligent life. Where EFC exceled, Avatar fails miserably. I hope James Cameron will learn from his mistake.

We do not think so. Massachusetts is a progressive state that has made gay marriage legal. It has a large educated and literate population. It is simply simply unlikely that the majority of voters in Massachusetts would vote for a Republican who opposes economic, social reform and change. We ask that the Congress investigate this matter and this President Obama appoint Martha Coakley as the acting Senator from Massachusetts until further notice.

Statement on the Best Film award given to Avatar by the Golden Globes

We note with regret that the Golden Globes decided to give Avatar the award for Best Film. In this era of Obama and progress, we deserve better.

James Cameron said the following last night:

"'Avatar' asks us to see that everything is connected, all human beings to each other, and us to the Earth. And if you have to go four and a half light years to another, made-up planet to appreciate this miracle of the world that we have right here, well, you know what, that's the wonder of cinema right there, that's the magic,"

If only his words were backed up by his film. Cameron's Avatar provides us with a narrow vision of humanity, one without gays, lesbians, bi-sexuals or transgender people. It promotes the idea that intelligent and sentient beings on another world would be heterosexual. It promotes violence. It ignores the possibilities, the realities and the diversity of human society and sexuality.

If James Cameron really believed that all humans and the Earth were "connected" we would not be having this debate or these protests.

Diversity, Health Care and Tolerance are all basic human rights and cannot and should not be denied to us. We will not be silent, we will not sit down and we will not stop. On March 7, 2010, James Cameron will be hearing and seeing what humanity is really like.

Avatar protest at the Golden Globes today?

People have been asking if there are any scheduled protests at the Golden Globes or anywhere else today. The answer is no. There is nothing planned for today. But you can certainly continue to protest Avatar if you wish.

We are taking a 'wait and see' approach with the Golden Globes. If Avatar does win any awards tonight it will only increase our determination and the need to educate people about Evolution, diversity and tolerance.

In any event, there WILL BE a day of protest on March 7 which is the day of Oscars. We're hoping to have at least 100,000 people actively take part. Details will be coming soon.

The purpose of protest to create change and to improve the world. The 12/18 Protest against Avatar was and is a call for such change. And it has been a success. People around the world are talking and thinking about gay and transgender rights. For others, especially those in less progressive and free-thinking areas (such as the 'Red States' in America) this is perhaps the first time they have heard about Evolution or learned about the existence of transgenders.

What is the change we seek?

Ideally, there would not be films with divisive or narrow-minded perspectives such as Avatar. One idea that has been floated about and one that I support is the Diversity and Fairness Act (DAFA). DAFA would be a series of laws and guidelines to make sure that a book, a film, a radio program, a web site or any form of mass media or communication does not offend or promote messages of exclusion of hate.

If DAFA was enacted already there would be no Rush Limbaugh spewing messages of hate and war-mongering. There would be no Sarah Palin promoting her anti-Evolution and theme of Americanism. I strongly believe DAFA would have forced James Cameron to make films that respect diversity and are socially and scientifically inclusive.

DAFA would be run by free-thinkers and society's most intelligent and progressive. Such people could have advised and guided Cameron into making a more thoughtful and inclusive film. We are fortunate that we have such a person in President Obama who is currently transitioning America to progression. If there was ever a time to make DAFA a reality, it is now.

Avatar and its makers continue to insult and alienate movie goers:

"Avatar fans promised alien sex scene on DVD

I want to thank everyone again who took part in the 12/18 protest against Avatar. You made a difference and I thank for your continued interest and support. Just so you know, there WILL BE more protests on March 7, 2010 if Avatar is nominated for any Oscar awards. The details are being worked out to coordinate an effective campaign that will result with the progressive change that we seek. I will keep you updated on the 3/7/10 protest plans. In the meantime, please feel free to share your ideas and thoughts on what effective means of protest against the Oscars can be used.

2009 is coming to a close and what a wonderful year this was! We saw the end of the Bush Regime and America got its first really intelligent and most diverse President in Barack Obama! President Obama is ending torture and war and all peoples in America will have access to health care. Thank you, President Obama!
