Please respect our right to protest Avatar tomorrow - Violence is not the answer

The progressive community is very excited about how the events of December 18, 2009 will unfold.   There are many blogs and websites talking about the Avatar protest tomorrow and there is every reason to expect a significant turn-out.  This is a wonderful opportunity to show non-progressive America the beauty and diversity of the human being.

I would like to remind everyone that ANYONE can take part in tomorrow’s protest.  You don’t have to be gay or lesbian.   You don’t have to be transgender or bi-sexual.   You can be simply curious or open-minded even if you consider yourself to be straight.

These protests will be non-violent and non-confrontational.   Our intention is not to intimidate but to educate.  That said, there may be incidents tomorrow.   This is will most likely happen in what’s called Middle America.   If you live in a U.S. state that failed to vote for President Obama last year, PLEASE BE CAREFUL.  If people are hurt tomorrow it will serve as a reminder for the inherent need for Universal Health Care in America.   Health Care is a basic human right.  If anyone is hurt tomorrow, I am sorry for you and I hope you will be well.  But you can play a role in helping President Obama provide all peoples with access to health care.

We only ask that people please respect our right to free speech and our freedom of expression.   Some of us will stand up during the film.  Others will sit down in theater lobbies.  There is no reason why this should bother you or be a cause for confrontation.  This is an opportunity for non-progressives as well:  Open your minds and take the first step to being a rational and tolerant person.   You can always watch Avatar at a later time or buy the DVD if you wish.

We thank you for your time.

  2. Please....this is a HATE FREE zone. Gays and Lesbians have children all the time. Transgender people have children. This is the 21st Century and I ask that you try to have an open mind.

  3. Dumbest protest I've come across, and I'm gay.

  4. I am very excited about tomorrow. I can't wait to see all my brothers and sisters standing up for justice!

  5. I'm gay I find this rally completely offensive as a gay person, straight/bi/whatever people have every right to make up their own damned stories about the movie they are writing/filming/creating. You are actually hindering creativity because you guys somehow feel that people in the future have to be transgender?

I'm not saying you should like the movie, but you shouldn't be ruining other people having a good time at the theater because of something as rediculous as this.

  6. if anybody gets up in front of me i will punch them square in the fucking face. then i will find the person responsible for this protest and chop off his balls.

  7. This is beyond belief stupid, i mean i have nothing against gays or anything but i mean really? You are actually protesting because there isnt any shemales, this is a joke and this website should be shut down, avatar is a amazing movie and if anything should be protested its this bullshit website, do us a favor and a get out of this country because you are what makes gays look bad

    ReplyDelete
  8. This ...
is really stupid. I don't get you
I'm gay my self and this deeply disappoints me

That's why others think so badly of us. Just one moron ruins it everything for everyone else.

Nobody is obliged to write a certain sexuality. And you are really stupid if you think so.
AS you said "we are equals" which means we are not special or better. if they don't want to write about us that's fine they don't have to

With this you will hurt many respectable gays and lesbians who have never commit such and stupidity. And many Morons will think that we all gays are as ridiculous and stupid as you people Please do a favor to the community and step out of this. You will only hurt people WHO HAS TRULY FIGHT And Loose their lives for our rights. This is not the case this is just "OMG I'M GAY I WANT ATTENTION" kind of thing I even doubt you truly are gay

  9. This protest... really is stupid. Please, I plead with you to reconsider. Seriously. Are you guys trying to show you are equal to heterosexuals? Are you trying to show that you can be just as smart, just as good, just as EQUAL?

Then stop. You ar eimposing your ideas on a group of people.

This sounds like something, does it not? It sounds like what the LGBT community has gone through for years.

Their rights being taken away. Their art being changed because it's not considered "right" by one person.

This is the root of suffering in the world. The root of violence and hardship.

    It is people like you.

People who believe that things should be changed because it does not support what the believe in. I'm not talking about the denial of basic and human rights (i.e. marriage, etc). I'm talking about trying to take away someone else's freedom of speech.

I'm heterosexual. I'm a woman. I'm an atheist. We take for granted the privelages and rights that we have been given. My friends speak of God and hell around me. They know of my beliefs. Do I protest this? Do I cry foul? No, these are their beliefs and I respect that.

When my friend draws a picture of her and her boyfriend holding hands, do I demand that it should be instead two women? I am strongly for gay rights.

It's people like you who make share my best friend isn't allowed to get married to the woman she loves.

It's people like you who would have me burned at the stake for being a non-believer in some religon.

It's people like you who impose their beliefs on others with no consideration of their feelings and their art.

It's people like you who are despicable.

Have fun being a hypocrite and ruining everything tomorrow. :D!

  10. While I think it's an interesting idea that you have raised by protesting this form of social discrimination (I guess that's what you'd call it), I think it's extremely unfortunate that you've chosen this particular film in which to do it.

I really liked the fact that this film's main character is a disabled man who ends up being the hero of the story. This is something that with very, very few exceptions has never been done and is very nice to see.

Keep in mind when you protest this film tomorow that discrimination against disabled people in practice is probably at least as bad as it is for homosexual people. Afterall, there will be many cinemas airing this movie tomorrow that will not even have disabled access, not to mention bars, shops and restaurants around the cinemas.

  11. Uh this is just so fucking stupid I cant write a post properly expressing my distaste.

    ReplyDelete
  12. To hell with all you anti-gay bigots. I WILL PROTEST THIS MOVIE and I WILL STAND UP and if you try to stop me I will fight back.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The reason this upsets me so much is it is not an accurate portrayal of gay people. I'm gay and I think this is completely idiotic. I'm all for gay rights and everything. But gays don't need equal representation in media. We don't even need proportionate representation...everybody already knows we're out here. But people like the people making this blog and protest do more to hurt our cause than help it.

I for one hope the protest fails epically tomorrow and the rational people in the gay community find a way to show people that we're not all crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am gay and I think this is a very good thing. We've been too silent for too long when it comes to the movies that Hollywood makes. There should be more gay characters. Are we supposed to sit back and be content because they made Brokeback Mountain? Why aren't there more films like that? It was a big success.

    ReplyDelete
  15. What the fuck kind of protest is standing up in a theater? You're just ruining the movie for other people, you're not sending any real message to the people who made this movie other than that you want to have drinks thrown at you.

This movie is not a platform for social awareness of any kind. It's about blue people and guys in robot suits. Gender, sexuality, none of that has anything to do with this film. It's just entertainment.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm gay, and this entire blog is, at best, entirely idiotic.

Thank you for making the rest of the GLBT community look bad. Thank you so very much.

    ReplyDelete
  17. You guys can protest this if I can protest Brokeback Mountain for not having enough heterosexuals. See how dumb it sounds? Seriously, this is the most idiotic idea ever, and if you stand up and ruin my movie I will slap someone.

  19. 1: Its not your fucking movie.

2: ITS NOT YOUR FUCKING MOVIE.

You want gay blue aliens humping FINE the you make the muiltimillion dollar block buster.

Its called artistic freedom and that include the freedom to put what ever you want in a movie and LEAVE what ever you want out of a movie.

This is Camerons brainchild, hes been wanting to make an/this alien epic ever since he was 12. The movie has nothing to do with sexual preferences and should not have anything to do with this movie.

also ITS NOT YOUR FUCKING MOVIE

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hoax, pure and simple.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. I'm seriously hope that this is a joke, because you're making mountains out of mole hills, here.

It's just a movie. It is fictional. While it would be nice to see some gay and lesbian characters in the movie, that is not the theme of movie by far. It doesn't focus on anti-gay themes. It might not touch on 'oh yeah, there's gay people too', but it's nothing against the LGBT community.

Being a bisexual, I have to facepalm at this entire blog. I'm going to see this movie on the weekend with my brother and I'm probably going to like it. Have fun providing the movie with all of your money and thinking you're protesting something when really you're just making it even more popular.

Again, ridiculous, facepalm, hope this isn't true.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Please be a joke. There is no way ANYBODY on the entire fucking planet can be so stupid as to protest a movie for not having gays in it. Go make your own fucking movie about gays if you want, it isn't your decision how the movie is made. You want a say in things? Make your own goddamn movie. You're a disgrace to gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  23. If you try to stop me from protesting tomorrow this queer boy will punch you.

  24. HAHAHA yo queer boy thinks he's tough. I'd wipe the floor with you, go suck some dicks and if a faggit ever thought about protesting in mah theater i'd end his life

  27. How is your Christmas fund? Growing?

    ReplyDelete
  28. WOW... I can't believe soooo many people are actually buying this. Apparently I'm one of the only people who likes to go to right-wing christian websites to laugh at their rediculous protests of any movie with even a single gay charector, saying it promotes homosexual themes. This site is spot on satire of that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm now ashamed of being gay.

    ReplyDelete
  30. AND IF YOU TRY TO STOP ME FROM PROTESTING I WILL KICK YOUR ASS.

    ReplyDelete
  31. That is bullshit, if anyone stands up in the movie i'll kick their arse. I pay to see a movie, not some little quere.

    ReplyDelete
  32. THEN DON'T SEE THE MOVIE YOU HOMOPHOBE. TOMORROW IS OUR DAY. SEE THE DUMB FILM ON SATURDAY.

  33. Universal healthcare is cool when i dont have to pay for ti with my taxes. Fuck Obama, his policies suck, he has done nothing but shut down guantanamo. But i do like the whole sentence about if you do not live in an area that voted for obama your fucked. Awesome, becasue if you didnt vote for obama you obviously are close minded right? cause you implyed that? Yet you preach having an open mind, hypocite much?

Next subject: Protesting avatar teh movie, from what i understand, is becasue it doesnt ahve gays in it? AWESOME, you go show the world, how dare they not put alien gay people. I guess i missed the part where it was titled Avatar: Gay people are the devil. Whoever goes to this, jsut has a lot fo free time, enjoy a good movie and dont snub it for not having gay people.

Whether the movie is good or not i don't know, but what a way to preach your ideals. By protesting a movie that doesn't revolve around sexual preference.

You gay extremists preach being open minded, but when someone thinks differently you fucking ruin a movie for them. How the fuck does it make sense for you to preach having an open mind when you cant watch a movie becasue it doesnt have gay people? Fucking get some sense

    ReplyDelete
  34. i dont get it are they saying they dont feel equal because there are no gays in this movie? i support gays but you cant be standing up during the movie. thats just going to make people look down upon you, really. sit in the lobby, stand outside, just dont do anything during the acutal movie.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm bisexual. But this protest seems to contradict the whole purpose of the LGBT movement. It's all about being open-minded. If you're gay, then that's fine. If you're bisexual, that's fine. If you're straight, that's fine too. It seems that all that's being spouted on this website is complaints about the lack of openly gay characters in this movie. This is no better than right-wing websites which attack movies with gay characters. I hope you guys who are somehow offended by this movie come to your senses and get over it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It's not a minority's choice for a movie for the majority. You can't expect change the story and content of a movie because you want a gay character. This is a pointless protest that will only lead to violence

    ReplyDelete
  37. Why this particular movie?

    ReplyDelete
  38. standing up in the movie is not non-confrontational protest, ur just screwing with people trying to enjoy the movie they paid for
you cant ruin peoples movie experience and not expect them to kick your ass in response
I have nothing against gays but this is just a waste of time and money
they can put whatever they want in movies, if you want more gays in them, then make your own

    ReplyDelete
  39. haha, "health care is a basic human right"...

no its not. Healthcare isn't a Right.. its a good. its something you PAY for.. like CAR INSURANCE.. and HOME OWNERS insurance..

speech. press. assembly. gun ownership. etc. these are rights..

    Dumbass

Someone standing up, obstructing your view of a movie you've paid to see, is disrespectful and SHOULD bother people. It's annoying and makes a mockery of the cause for un-straight people.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Saxton Hale has been notified of this blog and will be arriving shortly.

    Goodbye, protestors.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Okay, I'm all for equal rights, but going out of your way to disrupt someone while they're trying to watch a movie they PAYED for is just being a total dick. All you're doing is making people look down upon your cause. Why? Because no one wants to support a bunch of self-rightious dickheads that have nothing better to do than be assholes to strangers at a movie theater.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Also if I see anyone standing in front of the screen blocking my view, I will kindly go ask them to sit down or leave so that the rest of the people may enjoy the movie. I generally have a high anger threshold, so unless you're a total dick to me I won't really do anything. Just be warned though. A lot of other people will beat the shit out of you if you don't take my advice.

    ReplyDelete
  44. So you're protesting a movie because it has no homosexual themes? Are you serious? Well you assholes had better protest 90% of movies coming out for the rest of time then, too. Not EVERY movie has to have gay themes. I have no problem whether they do or don't, but you're just making the gay community look like a bunch of retards. And then you guys wonder why no one takes you seriously and look down on you. Your cause is ridiculous and you're just alienating anyone that otherwise would've supported gays.

If this is a troll, 10/10

    ReplyDelete
  45. You're protesting a movie for not advancing your personal agenda that not everyboy agrees with?

    How intolerant of you.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You do realize that you are Gay Supremacists? Essentially Gay Skinheads? Gay Nazis? Trying to force a movie producer to make the lead roles gay is a violation of their artistic freedom. How ungay of you.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mike, oppressed peoples cannot be supremesists.

Would someone who is not an idiot explain to me wtf this is. If it's a joke then I am impressed.

    ReplyDelete
  48. You know ... I'm gay and I will personally beat the living shit out of anyone who deliberately blocks the screen after I've paid $12 for a movie ticket and $8 for popcorn and $5 for a soda.

Do NOT make me waste my money or I *will* rape you.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Closed minded fags.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Seriously? You guys have NOTHING better to do than protest a movie that couldn't be less offensive? Honestly, do something productive. "People may stand up during the movie" "there is no reason this should anger you... you can see avatar at a later date" people pay money to go see this movie in a theater, and don't want morons like this standing in their way. Get some damn common sense.

    ReplyDelete
  51. You hypocrites! Damn you you stupid hypocrites - I weep for liberalism while idiots like you are at the helm.

    ReplyDelete
  52. This is totall bolocks why daint ya shut the fuck up and just get on with it for fuck sakes, so what if there wasnt gay, lesbian and whatever else in a film so what (and this is comming from someone who is gay) obviously people just like a whine and just for record there would be no segregation if people like the person who started this "protest" didnt create one.

    ReplyDelete
  53. "People may stand up during the movie. . . There is no reason this should anger you."
    Are you kidding me?
If someone stands up in front of me during a movie that I paid for, I will make them sit down.
Grow up already. Avatar might be popular, but that doesn't mean anyone in it needs to be gay.
Can't you find something worthwhile to do?

    ReplyDelete
  54. And the GLBT community wonders why no one respects them. It's a movie, get over yourselves. Throwing a GLBT character into a movie for the sake of appeasing the community is the same as throwing a female lead into a movie to appease the women. Unless they are important to the plot there's no reason for it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Since you've made such a big deal of Avatar, I'm going to go buy tickets to this movie, and guess what I'm going to do?
    Watch it. Fascinating thought, huh?
I now want to see this movie more than ever.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I was debating about seeing this movie, and originally I wasn't. This protest, however, has made me want to go see this movie, and if anyoen stands up and block my view they're getting a large-sized cola shoved up their urethra.

    ReplyDelete
  60. You guys are really fucking retarded, seriously, I can't stand police, I can't stand the idea of law, but I can't wait to see a fucking video of police beating you morons as much you fucking deserve it. I wasn't even planning on seeing this damned movie, now I'll gladly go and watch it knowing retards like you faggots will get so pissed off over it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. "WOW... I can't believe soooo many people are actually buying this. Perhaps, but if the creator of this blog is being satirical, he or she should come out and say it because people will protest over this in real life. And I for one will not tolerate irrational protest that ruins my movie going experience.

    Also,

" Please....this is a HATE FREE zone. Gays and Lesbians have children all the time. Transgender people have children. This is the 21st Century and I ask that you try to have an open mind."

Hate free zone? What you are causing and promoting is nothing but hate. You're provoking hate for yourselves.

  62. This is plain retarded
don't speak for the gay community, I have many friends that are gay and when they heard this, they felt insulted.

You are not gays, YOU ARE FUCKING FAGS

If me and my friends go to this movie, we will toss our sodas against any FAG protesting for this bullshit. If that FAG doesn't get outta there after that happens, WE WILL BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF HIM.

  63. this is a giant TROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

    ReplyDelete
  64. So... you're protesting the movie because there's no GBLT mention... at all? Come on! I'm trans and pansexual, and even I think this is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard.

This is why the GBLT community cannot have nice things. We shouldn't be forcing GBLT views on everything in the world. We have our share of the entertainment industry, so do heterosexuals. Grow up.

    ReplyDelete
  65. If I see you freaks outside my theater, I'll make sure to laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm not going to jump on the band wagon and say that your protest is dumb or idiotic, but I will, however, say that this is VERY poorly thought out.

You can't expect every single "blockbuster" to have every kind of scenario of human relationships. To single out Avatar this way isn't the best choice. Saying that Avatar is "bad" because it lacks a gay relationship would mean you would have to take into account all the other high-grossing films that do not involve the mentioned relationships.

Also, it is nearly impossible for the entire human population to be gay in the future simply because there are rising gay rights movements at the time. This is almost like saying that because of the civil rights movements all humans in the future will be darker skinned.

tl;dr stop trying to be a gay MLK Jr.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Stupidest idea since gay "pride" parades that make you look like exactly the perverts that closed-minded people think you are.

  70. I'm a lesbian as well and this is just plain ridiculous. Most LGBT people think this is ludacris. Thanks for making us look stupid. It would be nice if idiots like you would stop pushing us backward after the advances we've made in recent decades.

  77. 1) Please feel free to cite some of these "many" blogs and websites that are talking about the Avatar protest. I would be specifically interested in how many of them are encouraging towards your cause and how many think you're an idiot. But as we've seen before, you don't read the things that you link to, and instead simply claim that they support you by virtue of the fact that they mention you.

    2) Thank you for inviting me to your event, regardless of my heterosexuality. It sure is big of you to include all the different sexualities in your protest. However, you are the one being closed-minded as you are trying to shut down a movie based on the fact that you perceive a negative message coming from it.

    3) It's great that you claim that your protests will be non-confrontational, but the majority of the methods you suggest are anything but. Standing up during a movie and refusing to sit down, or refusing to leave the lobby of the theater are examples of you confronting people with your beliefs (which you are perfectly entitled to hold).

    ReplyDelete
  78. My fourth point is posted by itself for emphasis:

    4) Your bullshit (and I don't use the term lightly, as I tend to prefer elevated discourse, but your point is so poorly made that there exists no way to coherently respond to it) about Obama and universal health care is completely out of place. I hate to break it to you, but even the states that *did* vote for Obama don't have universal health care (I would like to add the word "yet", but we'll what happens). That being said, it is utterly reprehensible of you to be so gleeful about the prospect of blood being shed during the protests. You seem to want to martyr the very people you claim to be trying to protect. I can only ask: what the fuck is wrong with you, you vermin? Have you not a single shred of decency in your body? You are encouraging people to go out and seek being harmed because it will further your cause. You are no better than the cowards who organize suicide bombers and remain safe at home while they go out and kill themselves. You are the worst kind of person and I'm not even sure how you could possibly stand to live with yourself. For what it's worth, if anyone actually *does* listen to you and go out to protest this movie, I desperately hope that they don't put themselves in harm's way by provoking the authorities, as you have suggested they do. If anyone is injured in this protest, I will hold you personally accountable for each and every one of them, you base cowardly fuckwad.

    ReplyDelete
  79. (... cont)

    5) You *do* have a right to free speech. I respect that right. I also have a right to tell you you're an idiot and why. Please respect that right as well. But free speech isn't the only right that exists. People have a right to expect to be able to enjoy the movie they paid twelve dollars to see. Businesses have the right to expel you for being disorderly on their property, and police have the right to charge you if you are being a public nuisance. I hope tomorrow that you and anyone who follows you will respect these rights also.

    6) Being open-minded is about acceptance and a lack of discrimination. Avatar is in no way discriminating against alternative sexualities simply by not actively demonstrating them. You, however, *are* being closed-minded by believing that you have the right to tell others to shut up just because you disagree with them. I encourage *you* to open your mind and see that the world is not out to get you and that you don't have to react to heterosexuality with fear and hatred. I'm aware that heterosexuality reacted to homosexuality in this way, but society is slowly getting passed that: don't push your cause back by treating straight people the same way you were treated. Be the better man/woman/transgendered individual.

    7) If you *do* insist on disrupting my enjoyment of the movie under the claim that I can always watch it again or buy the DVD, I will be glad to accept cash or cheque as payment for my future movie ticket or DVD purchase. Thanks. :)

  80. To all these people who are worried about their viewing pleasure being ruined on Friday: TOO BAD. You people are so selfish. You think seeing Avatar is more important than civil rights and health care? If you are so worried, then DON'T see the film on Friday. You life will not be ruined if you wait a day or two for a film that will not help you or anyone else. On Friday you should be trying to help people, support gay marriage, support health care and be part of the community for once. This blog and its creator are selfless and I support both.

    ReplyDelete
  81. standing up during the movie will upset people because you are doing it to upset them, your not getting up to go to the washroom your getting up because you want to piss people off which i really fucking confrontational.

It's you retarded fuckers who will make the world think other gays are as retarded as you.

  82. To Sango:

Tomorrow isn't about supporting gay marriage, what these people want to do is bash a well done movie just because it isn't gay.

This is retarded, you gays aren't happy enough, this isn't an anti-gay film, but now you're bashing it because it is a heterosexual story????

    seriously, WHAT THE FUCK??!!

nature in most species is male and female, it has been like that for millions and millions of years, and it will stay the same for some millions more.

If you want to be gay, that's fine, I got nothing against gay people, but the reason why gays don't evolve IS BECAUSE THEY CAN'T TRANSFER THEIR DNA TO FUTURE GENERATIONS, while Male+Female can.

  83. Guys, this is probably an instance of Poe's Law. At least I really hope so. It reminds me of Anti-Spore...

    ReplyDelete
  84. To Sango :
You obviously have no idea what this protest is for. I am completely for gay marriage, especially being gay myself, but this is neither about gay marriage nor for health care (the fuck does that have to do with being gay)

This has to do with there not being any transgender/gay/bisexual/lesbian characters in the movie as well as a large portion of movies out there.

This isn't about discrimination this is about people who don't enjoy a small factor in many movies today and decided it was a good idea to protest and ruin everyone else's movie experience for a day because their having a fucking hissy fit.

If you actually are protesting tomorrow (later today), then your either far too bored, or a retard, and most of all not a part of the gay/bisexual/transgender/lesbian community as far as I'm concerned. Good day.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Sorry Zee but you just don't seem to get it. Too many people like you are more concerned about a multi-million dollar film than helping people.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Sango :
I don't give a shit about the movie, I do give a shit about my rights, however, and this "protest" is certainly not helping me, or any gays/lesbians, be treated as equals.

I also care about the hard work and creativity that goes into making a film, or any other piece of art be it a painting, a film, a sculpture, whatever. The main purpose of this protest is to force people to change their films just so people like you will enjoy it more, that's what is selfish about this.

  87. Let me just say that I'm GAY and me, my BF and a few other gay friends will be watching the film in a week

Who ever came up with this idea is serioulsy retarded.

  95. I am bisexual and polyamorous. I have a husband, a girlfriend, and a boyfriend. This is quite possibly the silliest thing I've ever seen, and I think you are trivializing the real plight of gays in this country. Who cares if you buy a ticket but don't see the movie? You've now given them your money, which does exactly zip- they're not counting the people in the theatre, they're counting sold tickets. Standing up or making a fuss during the movie will just get you kicked out, because you're being a jerk and disturbing other people's PAYING movie experience. And all people will do is say "Wow, how dumb were these people? Now I'm going to go see it again!"

Do you really want to help gays in this country? Delete this blog.

  106. OK, let me say this as nicely as I can. I have gay/bi friends, and I respect then and their opinions but this is the dumbest protest I have ever seen in my life! 99% of movies don't have Gay/Bi/Transexual/Transgender characters! WHY ARE YOU PROTESTING THIS ONE?!?! By protesting this you are taking away the movie maker's right to free speech. He can invision a FICTIONAL universe any way he wants to and you have no right to take that away from him. Oh, and this film isn't real, but I doubt in the future everyone will be Gay/Trans there are gonna be straight people. The end.

  109. Evolution is scientific fact. With the passage of time, a species will evolve and will improve biologically. With the growing dangers of climate change it is clear that the human race will become Transgender to reduce its impact on the Earth. The "male/female" divide has created too many people, too much breeding, too much social conflict, too much waste and pollution. A transgender species will reduce redundancy and provide greater efficiency.

    ReplyDelete
  123. This protest is extremely hypocritical.

First of all you are pushing the idea of a wholly transgendered society on us yet protesting too many straights.

You talk about violence is not the answer but suggest generating confrontational situations with both patrons and police (standing up in theaters, staying put until forced).

You mention your RIGHT to protest. What about people's creative rights? They are free to create their own stories and many take from personal experiences to create them. I suggest maybe petitioning or fundraising/supporting filmmakers in your community. That sounds a lot more progressive to me.

    ReplyDelete
  124. What a joke! I have lost all respect for the gay community now. You fucking have a cry when gays are represented the wrong way in a movie, and then you cry when there isn't a gay in a movie? wtf is wrong with you people??!! it is a MOVIE - a movie! an artistic creation, about blue aliens lol! theyre not gonna make a movie with blue aliens having butt sex, EVER, so get over it already retards!

go watch a movie that actually addresses sexuality/gender, but don't stand against one that has completely NOTHING to do with it. why don't you go protest against every other movie out there then? bunch of sads in my opinion.

have you ever wondered why there is so much controversy surrounding homosexuality? maybe because the majority of people don't care if you are attracted to the same sex, just like people shouldnt care if you are attracted to the opposite. it's your business where you put your genitals, so don't make it everybody elses.

you are a gay community, WE GET IT, now get the fuck over it! nobody cares. stop ruining awesome movies for everyone else!

you should all be ashamed of yourselves.

  132. Your post inaccurately represents many facts. Assuming violence in any state that didn't vote for Obama... what?? Sounds like the only anti whoever rhetoric is coming from you. Please stop promulgating such ignorance. And by the way, the movie isn't anti gay, the plot just leaves us out and since it's already a 2 hour, 40 minute movie, I assume they couldn't write about EVERYTHING. How is that anti-gay? By the way, if a member of our glbt community had written this story I might've hoped for some representation, though it's not required. As it is, your complaining about this non issue reflects negatively on the gays. Please stop. Think more.

I'm sorry you are not able to copy and paste here. It is not intentional. I am trying to figure out how make that possible on this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Lara, you do realize that by doing a protest like this is just setting yourself and your cause back, not forward. There are larger battles to be had than something like this.

People are beaten and killed on a daily basis for their gender or sexual choices, yet it seems all you care about is your viewing pleasures..

Let's put it this way... How would you have reacted if we made a website just like this one when brokeback mountain came out? Saying we should boycott BB Mountain because we felt that the main characters should have been straight.. You would be all over that like flies on honey!

Most importantly note that there wasn't any boycott for that movie.. Infact the movie itself won several awards..

A director, and more importantly the Script Writer should NOT be forced to keep a list of things that must be put in a movie to make a social group happy... A movie and a script is a visual story... And sometimes adding a certain element to that story might upset the flow of the movie..

Directors and editors make changes to scripts and movies all the time based on such a thing. I've seen clips that would hint at a love interest between 2 people get taken out because it wasn't needed and ruined the flow from 1 scene to the next.. And I've seen the opposite.

If there was a twist in the movie that one of the characters was a transexual would have ruined the flow of the movie.. I would have taken it out also.. That doesn't make me a bad or hateful person, I'm just trying to tell a good story... And I and no one else should have to worry if that story is accepted by all cultures...

And thats the main point.. Not every story is going to be accepted by everyone.. You're all about Diversity as I can see in your profile. So why is it that, because you don't like the fact that there is not a transexual in Avatar. You must act out on it and make it a hassle for those who think the movie is ok the way it is, to enjoy?

Opinions are just as Diverse as everything else about society. So if the Director and the Writer of this piece thought the movie looked fine the way it is, that does not make them hateful people.

If you thought differently, then you can always take up the art yourself and try your hand at directing a movie the way you want to..

I think that option there is much more progressive for your cause than the actions you're taking now.

    ReplyDelete
  138. You people are just as bad as straights who hate gays. You don't respect anybody who isn't like you and that is wrong. I have plenty of gay friends and I think this is the worst protest ever.

    ReplyDelete
  139. How do you know there are no LGBT among the Navis ? James Cameron only shows very few of them's sexual orientation. And this is not the point : the film is about the relationship between the human and it's environement, not about the LGBT visibility. I guess you have more serious things to do to obtain respect and defend your rights in the US, than boycot a film just because the heros are straight.

Face it. the world arent ready for gays and transsexuals yet. p.s. whats up with standing up in the theater. whats the point of that. you are ruining for everyone else and you waste money on something you hate and you probably going to end up with a broken face. WOW gay people just WOW. you just proven yorself dumber than straight people.

  141. ROLFMAO, it's stupid stunts like this which make me really hate gays.

All the humans in the film were soldiers. Did you really expect to see any of them prancing about, doing gay stuff? Of course not unless they wanted to get kicked out of the force. Do you think at school your teacher would let kids have gay sex in the middle of the lesson when he is trying to teach?? For goodness sake the people in the film were supposed to be busy doing their jobs.

And anyway, I would also like to complain that there were also no heterosexuals in the film. I mean sure I saw lots of humans, but there was no telling, I didn't see them all having intercourse so they could have all been gay. This is an outrage, us heterosexuals should be fairly represented.

  156. So are you lobbying against avatar or for universal health care? You went off on a random tangent there.
You do realise that the reason the only couple in the entire movie is Jake and Neytiry is that they didn't have enough time in the movie to focus on anyone else, right? This isn't even a romance movie, but a geeky action/adventure with an underlying protest against corporations, war, and racism.
I agree there should be more GLBT representation in movies (which actually does seem to be very very slowly happening - yay!)but Avatar is the wrong movie to complain about, as it isn't even a movie about romantic relationships. They never delve into the secondary characters - so how can you know none of them are GLBT?
