E-mail and letter template to protest the Avatar movie

Dear Person,

I am writing to you to express the concern and disappointment that many of us in the public feel regarding the upcoming release of the James Cameron film, Avatar.

It has come to our attention that the central plot of Avatar revolves around a paralyzed “male” solider has an emotional and sexual relationship with what is supposed to be a “female” upright biped sentient being from the planet Pandora.

There are several concerns here:

1) Avatar may alienate bi-sexual, gay and transgender film-goers.

2) Avatar may in fact, have a pro-heterosexual message or theme

3) Is Avatar sending a message against Evolution? Science has proven that Darwinian Evolution is fact and humans are currently evolving from the male/female gender gap in Transgender state. From what we can see, Avatar fails to reflect this in its depiction of humans in the future. The film also seems to assume that intelligent beings from other worlds would also be split along male/female gender lines and not be transgender. Why?

4) Last but no least, we are also concerned about the militaristic plot elements of Avatar which could convince younger viewers that military life or the use of violence is acceptable.

We ask that the release of Avatar be delayed until these issues are resolved and we thank you for your time.

Most Sincerely,

  1. It's about time something was done about these straight movies. I'm sick of it!

  2. You people are ridiculous. Make your own vision. Make your own movie.

    Stop whining.

  3. Wow, most people are straight...chill out. I feel that I shouldn't need to preview G rated movies before allowing my children to watch them. Movies like Shark Tale make me sick. I find if very intolerant of this whole movement to try to surpress the straight people. Really, why do you have to talk about what you do in your bedroom so much anyways?

  4. I just sent a letter complimenting James C. for creating such an interesting relationship in this exciting new film. Will take my entire family to see it on opening weekend.

Thanks for creating this website to draw attention to the Avatar movie.

  5. OMG im so excietd for Avater i alos set a letter to James for making such a wonderfull and depicting humasn as they will be in the future. Homosexuality is merely a a choice made for pleasure, and aliens obiovulsy wouldnt be "gay" or "transgender" since they woudl be smart enough to understand relation ships are for pro creation and family (not for fucking butt sex). In general u just draw more attention to an already great film so i thank you also :)

  6. Who cares if Avatar has a pro-hetero stance? At least it isn't attacking homosexuality. The reason you are whining about this particular movie is beyond me.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Wow. I do not even know what to say to this. And by THIS, I mean your literally 'gay' comments. Alright, now how do I put this?

    1) Who fricken CARES if Avatar alients gays, bisexuals, whatever you wanna be called. You have A CHOICE to watch this movie, and MANY PEOPLE WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE. So why should you guys STOP a movie that you're not even going to see!?

    2) Again, Pro-heterosexual message or theme? SERIOUSLY? What about all the DISNEY movies with the princess and the prince? Are you going to tell your children they can't watch THESE? Or maybe you won't have children....

    3) Even if Avatar IS sending a message against evolution, who cares? Screw evolution. Just because someone up and decided that we came from monkies doesn't mean we should believe it. But whatever... God knows the truth.

    4) Militaristic Plot Elements!??!?! You have GOT to be kidding me! Yeah, awesome. Let's take our military away and see where we are in the future! I'll tell you right now (For your benefit.. cause I could care less).. no military= no more gays. Why? Because without our military and without children growing up learning that we must DEFEND our country, we would probably be under some communist country. We would no longer BE a country. No more U.S.A.!! It seems with these sort of comments that our country is straying away from what our founding fathers made it anyway... especially with Obama as our president.

No one is going to listen to you, and no one is going to stop a perfectly GREAT movie from hitting the big screens. Especially after reading how far fetched some of your comments are...

    :)

  9. If America had no military millions of people would be still alive and unhurt in Afghanistan, Iraq, Korea, Japan and Germany and on and on. Violence only hurts people and there is no valid reason for it. Guns in America kill people and yet guns are still legal in many parts of America.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Guns don't kill people. Stupid people kill people. If we had no military Iraq would be over here, and we all would be under strict Arab orders. Having no military is basically asking to be torn apart. You don't think Afghanistan or Iraq people would be hurt without us? What about all the suicide bombers and jihad terrorists? They don't CARE about people in their countries. The United States has raded thousands of bomb stock piles. We saved thousands of lives by finding these hidden weapons. And don't start on anti-American gun laws... it won't be pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  11. If you make guns illegal then only the criminals, terrorists, and invadors will have them. United States has only survived as a nation because of the right to keep and bear arms and its military power.

  12. Wow, what a stupid website. You gays must really feel self-conscious to need to convert everyone to your worldview. I don't care whether you like my worldview or not, I'm not forcing it on you. I really wasn't too interested in this movie, but in your honor, I will take my "hetrosexual" wife to see it. Congrats! You just sold 2 more tickets! (The very IDEA that we would be "evolving" to be gay... dumbass, if that happened, we would die off! It took two heteros to make YOU!) It's amazing the audacity the gay community has trying to force their worldview on others. Sorry, yell all you want, I'm not going to approve of your sexual choices- you really should have the good sense not to air your private goings-on in public, like the rest of polite society.

  13. Hi,

godless pro-gay-marriage pro-choice liberal canadain here.

I'm not sure if your concerns are real, or whether you are an elaborate conservative Troll.

Your second point may be correct, but moot.
What is wrong with promoting heterosexuality? As long as it's not explicitly denouncing homosexuality.

The weakest part of your argument is this whole association you draw between trans/homo-sexuality and evolution (why do improperly capitalize it?).

Incidence rates of homosexuality (along with attitudes to abortion, generally the whole red-blue state thing) correlates strongly with population density.
In an area with high population density, it may not be adaptive to try and have your own children, as there are so few opportunities and resources for them. Therefore, for some organisms, it may be the optimal choice to not procreate and rather spend those resources increasing the fitness of a relative more distant than your own direct offspring (a cousin, for example).

Your view on the relationship between evolution and homosexuality is too linear (much like depicting humans as the 'apex' or 'goal' of evolution). You have implicit a priori assumptions about a certain sexual orientation being better overall. Evolution and natural selection are all the context of an environment. Different environments will favor different proportions of sexual orientations in the organismal population.

I'm with you on what (I think are?) your generally pluralistic position on sexual orientation. Viewing 'the heteros' as the enemy doesn't help your case; heteros will always be the majority (barring VERY extreme overpopulation or other extreme conditions).

However, I feel like you are getting in a big tiff over not alot here.

I hope my comments are refreshing change :) Please respond if you feel fit

  14. You're out of your fucking mind. Guess we should boycott Star Wars too since Jabba the Hutt was clearly heterosexual.

  15. Hello inferior_convexity and thank you for your comments. No, I am not a troll. I'm a transgender person who is tired of heterosexuality being rammed down my throat by American popular culture. As I wrote in another post just before, if Cameron really wanted to make a film that was truly different and daring and truthful, Jake would be having a gay, bi-sexual or a transgender relationship. Not one based on heterosexuality. It is simply arrogant to assume this would happen with a being from another world with its own unique culture. The movie sends a message of exclusion to the gay and transgender community.

  16. The author of this piece is complete retard, like whatever about fags is the blue tin? No gaterade here, only bar fun knuckles. Kill faggots dead, for laughing, hahahahahahahaha, fags dead lol. Avatar will blow dick, like author, and is big shit licker, like other.

    ur all so gay.

  17. It's a movie and the creator of the movie has a right to portray fantasy worlds however he wants. If you don't like it, don't go. If you want to see a movie with transgendered leads, go make one. As a gay man, I am ashamed to see such witless whining (for one, evolution is not likely to move humans towards a transgendered state as a norm -- it is not as adaptive for reproduction).

As far as the militaristic features of this film, it is an action picture. It is intended to make money for the studio that financed it. It is not designed to be a mouthpiece for your particular positions on gender, pacifism, and sexuality.

There are so many important LGBT issues that need attention (ENDA, DOMA, same-sex marriage, adoption rights, etc.). To see that you wasted your time creating this site is just sad to me. Have a real impact and work on an issue where you might effect change. To attack a movie you have not seen with pronouncements about its failed science is quite pathetic.

  19. Dear Sir/Madam/Term I ignore with which you feel most comfortable,

In the most respectful way possible I ask you: Please do not force your beliefs down our throats. Just because you chose to be gay or transgender or furry or whatever you chose to do it does NOT mean everyone else also has to.

If you do not like the undertones of Avatar, then please, create your own movie, or make a petition to create one, or just ignore it exists.

God, Alah, Buda and the Flying Spaghetti Monster save us from a future where you cannot choose to be heterosexual. Humanity would literaly be doomed.

  20. If there had been GLBT characters in the original story, and they were "sanitized out", there would be a case for boycott. But as a gay rights activist myself, I have to say you seem to be grasping to find an issue to protest here. My advice is to pick better battles.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 1) Everything you say here is wrong. I can't even begin to think how your brain works. You're offended that a movie has a heterosexual relationship in it? The let me list some other works for you to be offended by: 10 Things I Hate About You, 12 Monkeys, The 40 Year-Old Virgin, 3000 Miles to Graceland, About a Boy, AntiTrust, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman & Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero, Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman, Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Be Cool, Big Fish, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, BlankMan, Blazing Saddles, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Children of Men, Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Clerks, Clerks II, Cloverfield, Dodgeball, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Dungeons & Dragons, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Ferris Buhller's Day Off, Fanboys, Serenity, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Flash Gordon, Forrest Gump, Free Enterprise, Galaxy Quest, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I Love You, Man, Juno, Kinsey, Logan's Run, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Mallrats, Lucky Number Slevin, The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, Memento, Mean Girls, Monty Python's Life of Brian, The Muppet Movie, O, Planet of the Apes, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Escape From the Planet of the Apes, The Princess Bride, Robin Hood, The Rocker, Role Models, Saved, Romeo + Juliet, Sin City, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Space Balls, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, The Mummy, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: Nemesis, Star Trek, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Superbad, Superman, Superman II, Superman III, Superman IV, Superman Returns, Thank You For Smoking, Titan A.E., Transformers, What Dreams May Come, Wimbleton, Wonder Woman, X-Files: I Want to Believe, X-Men, X2, X-Men 3: The Last Stand, Young People Fucking, Zack and Mirri Make a Porno, Zoolander, Aladin, The Lion King, A Bug's Life, Shrek, Shrek II, Shrek III. To name a few. Unless you're equally incensed at all these movies, you are being an idiot.

    2) The fact that a heterosexual relationship occurs in a film does not promote a heterosexual agenda in the same way that a homosexual relationship doesn't encourage everyone to go out and have gay sex. People have their sexualities: these aren't going to change because other people are different.

    ReplyDelete
  22. (cont...)

    3) Once again, you fail to cite your claims that humans are evolving to be transgendered. Feel free to provide some science in the future.

    4) Even if humans *were* evolving to be transgendered, this film takes place ~150 years in the future. Evolution is a process that takes MILLIONS of years. I am unsure as to whether you comprehend the difference, but 150 is LESS than a million.

    5) As mentioned above, the reason the film "seems to assume that intelligent beings from other worlds would also be split along male/female gender lines and not be transgender" (which isn't even grammatically correct) is because gender is required for sexual reproduction. The only other way for this species to exist is if they were to reproduce asexually, in which case the writing of a love story would be a moot point. Yes, you could still write a love story about a man falling in love with another man, but the question as to why the *species* would have notions of gender follows very clearly from evolution.

    6) You very clearly have no understanding of what evolution is. Please find out before making more arguments that make you sound like an idiot.

    7) The fact that there are military elements to the plot is also a ridiculous complaint and has nothing to do with your thesis that the film promotes a heterosexual agenda. Please try to stay on topic.

    8) Militaries exist. Whether or not you agree with what they do, they are a part of the world as it exists today. Having a film in which the military is present is simply a reflection of reality, and is neither implicitly an endorsement *nor* a condemnation. That being said, it would be interesting to see how long a society designed by you would survive against an outside threat given their lack of defensive military capabilities.

    9) James Cameron and 20th Century FOX have the right to make any kind of movie they want. The fact that you feel there is some sort of message to the film that you find offensive is not a reason to delay the film. Additionally, short of making an entirely different kind of movie to satisfy *you* is of the utmost arrogance and is a ridiculous demand considering the time and money that has gone into making their movie. If you want a different movie, feel free to invest 8 years and 240 million dollars in making one.

  23. Yes and while your at it, boycott Fern Gully as well because it simply implies that a male human falls in love with a forest fairy while destroying the woods. (Just thought: isn't this what Avatar is kinda based from but with a twist?)

  24. I really think you guys should see the movie before you complain about it.

    for example:
    4) Last but not least, we are also concerned about the militaristic plot elements of Avatar which cold convince younger viewers that military life or the use of violence is acceptable.

This couldn't be farther from the truth! The violence and damage that occurs is shown in a NEGATIVE light.

Seriously, people, GO SEE THE MOVIE. It is beautiful and has a wonderful story. So maybe not everyone is gay, but that doesn't mean that the movie is against you guys! I fully support hte LGBT community and I still loved this movie.

It upsets me that you guys are so blindly fighting against something you don't even understand.
    This is a beautiful

  25. I really hope this is a joke or a troll. It would be quite upsetting to see a legitimate LGBT movement capable of doing more damage to itself than the entire Christian right wing.

  26. I agree with the comment above, if this is real I'm likely to go into a blind rage and gnaw my own hands off. After which I might be compelled to start lecturing you on how I'm the next step in the evolution of the perfect race of beings, free of the constraints of holding things.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wait, when did science prove that people are becoming transgender? I'm pretty sure that you still need a male and a female and the human race is not becoming one gender. I mean, where in nature is there just one gender? Sure there are fish who can change, but we can do that with an operation, but only with an operation, or a change birth defect.

Really you're sick of society cramming its beliefs down your throat? Well how about you stop being a hypocrite and don't shove your beliefs down peoples throats

You have to realize that most of the world is still going to be straight now matter how much an alternative lifestyle is accepted.

Also since you are a woman now and complaing about heterosexuality, does that mean your a lesbian? Because if your only attracted to men then that makes you straight. Or it makes you a gay man and then your contradicting your being a transgendered person.

Evolution promotes heterosexuality, sorry but thats how a species survives, and as a part of the animal kingdom we still have those instincts to keep our species going. you may be able to have children through adoption but a MalexFemale equation still produced the child you would be raising.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Evolution does not work like that. Humans are NOT evolving into "transgenderism". Transgenderism is a cosmetic and identity change. It has nothing to do with evolution.
A FtM giving birth is not evolution.

I understand you're upset about this for some reason, and there is no guarantee an alien would also have both male and female, but you are being ridiculous in your assertions about evolution on this site.
It's offensive to real science, and your behavour about all this is offensive to the LGBT community. You're acting like a spoilt child and ruining people's experience int he cinema.

Step back, take a breath, and relax. Your reasons are all ridiculous and you are being paranoid, seeing an offence where there is none

If your gay and are affended by this get off your lazy faggy asses and go and make your own freaking film about your weirdo gay phanny banger dreams. This happons to be the best film i have ever seen. The effects were amazing and the plot kicked ass. Being that it was like dances with wolfs, its still original, I mean they had to make up a language for fuck sake!!!! And all of that programming that went into the making of it. If you were to have stopped this being released i think it would have been wise for James Cameron to come to your house himself and personally kick your ASS. Actually you might like the ass part so he should shoot you you weird gay boy. Oh and the main reason most films consist of STRAIGHT people is cuz that is the normality of this world. Reproduction is how we maintain steady life you retard. If we all went around being gay our species would DIE!!!!! So no, We STRAIGHT people shouldn't make gay films Four you, you should get out there and do it for yourselves. I could seriously go on forever about how STUPID this website is and I would gladly come over there and give you the biggest black eye that you have ever had, but I have to go to bed as it took me so dam long to read and vote on this POS. I mean stopping a film for being released after he worked on it for 14 YEARS...... When is the last time you ever worked on something for 14 years. (Except for being gay i mean that has to take some work(Weirdo))
